Die DGI ist die Vereinigung der Informations- und Wissensarbeiter in Deutschland. Information ist unsere Basisressource, welche wir mit Hilfe unserer Qualifikationen zu wertvollem Wissen veredeln. Sie bringt alle zusammen, die professionell und qualitätsorientiert mit Information zu tun haben. Von der Informationsermittlung über die Informationserschließung zur Informationsvermittlung und –beratung: unsere Mitglieder sichern Informationsqualität durch ihre informationswissenschaftlichen Qualifikationen und tragen so bei zur Wertschöpfungskette und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Unternehmen und Institutionen aus Wirtschaft, Verwaltung und Wissenschaft.
Die DGI bildet ein gemeinsames Dach für kommerzielle und nicht-kommerzielle Interessen und macht die Positionen ihrer Mitglieder nach außen sichtbar. Sie ist in Europa und international vernetzt und räumt der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ausland hohen Stellenwert ein. Konferenzen, Workshops und Fortbildungsveranstaltungen verbinden ihre Mitglieder und fördern die Kommunikation zwischen Ausbildung, Forschung, Praxis und Politik.
Die von der DGI herausgegebene Zeitschrift „Information. Wissenschaft und Praxis (IWP)“ dient allen Interessenten als Publikationsplattform und gilt als die maßgebliche deutschsprachige Fachzeitschrift für die Bereiche Informationswissenschaft und Informationspraxis.

BID
Bibliothek & Information Deutschland - BID ist der Dachverband der Institutionen- und Personalverbände des Bibliothekswesens, der Verbände des Informationswesens und zentraler Einrichtungen der Kulturförderung in Deutschland. BID vertritt deren Gesamtinteressen auf nationaler und europäischer Ebene sowie in internationalen Gremien.
Ihr Ziel ist die Förderung und Weiterentwicklung von Dienstleistungen und Innovationen der Informationsversorgung durch Bibliotheken und Informationseinrichtungen als Garantie demokratischer Informations- und Wissensbildung.
