Iscos è un Organismo non Governativo riconosciuto dal Ministero degli Esteri Italiano dal 1985. Iscos nasce nel 1983 dall’esperienza di partecipazione della Cisl (Confederazione Italiana sindacati dei Lavoratori) al movimento sindacale internazionale, come strumento dedicato alla cooperazione internazionale ed alla collaborazione con i sindacati dei Paesi in Via di Sviluppo.
Le finalità statutarie di Iscos sono:
a) sviluppare e rafforzare la solidarietà e i legami tra i popoli e in modo particolare tra le organizzazioni sindacali italiane e quelle dei paesi in via di sviluppo;
b) favorire il progresso economico, sociale, tecnico e culturale dei lavoratori di tali paesi, in modo particolare attraverso le loro organizzazioni e nei modi con essi concordati
c) contribuire alla nascita e alla crescita del movimento sindacale nei paesi in via di sviluppo nella convinzione che, senza la partecipazione dei lavoratori e delle loro organizzazioni, non è pensabile alcuna reale forma di sviluppo e alcuna reale garanzia di democrazia
d) coinvolgere le organizzazioni sindacali e i lavoratori da esse rappresentati sui valori della solidarietà, del rispetto dei diritti umani e associativi, delle libertà fondamentali, della giustizia, dello sviluppo plenario dei popoli
