Following the new definition of the scope of the Transparency Register Bayer has reviewed its financial data about activities described in Article 8 of the Inter-Institutional Agreement (published in the Journal L191/29). On this basis and due to the changes of the definition, Bayer adjusted its overall amount spent on advocacy activities.

In the interest of full transparency and on a voluntary basis Bayer states the method used to calculate the indicated budget. Bayer includes 70% of its overall office costs in Brussels into the amount. Bayer did not include the entire office expenses as some of the office’s work is dedicated to internal tasks and therefore does not fall under the definition of the Transparency register.

In addition Bayer included the expenses of other business divisions located mostly in Germany, providing e.g. background research, position papers, political work within European associations and visits to Brussels related to activities falling under the scope of the register. Following the rules of the Transparency Register Bayer included all costs for consultancy contracts falling under the scope and definition of the register.

These numbers are a forecast of the EU grants in Bayer´s 2014 financial statement and differ from those published on the European Commission database. Differences arise for example due to different accounting methods. Bayer is committed to giving a coherent account of its grants and will publish the final numbers as soon as they are available.
