The German Women Lawyers Association members are lawyers and economists. Our aim is to further the development of the law and to facilitate societal change and equal rights. We are primarily concerned with how the law affects women, children and the aged. We work at supranational and European, federal, state (Land) and regional levels. Standing and ad hoc committees work on the following areas of law and policy: Labour, Corporate and Commercial Law, Equal Opportunities, Civil and Family Law, Law of Inheritance, Law of Same-Sex Partnerships, Criminal Law, Violence against Women and Children, Social Security and Retirement Benefits, Public Law, European and International Law.
Directive 2014/95/EU of the EP and of the Council of 22 October 2014 amending Directive 2013/34/EU as regards disclosure of non-financial and diversity information by certain large undertakings and groups; Proposal for a directive of the EP and of the Council on improving the gender balance among non-executive directors of companies listed on stock exchanges and related measures, COM(2012) 614 final, 2012/0299 (COD).
EU-project "European Women Shareholders Demand Gender Equality" (2014-2016): The objective of the project is to develop public awareness, strategies and measurements for more women in economic decision-making positions in the EU member states, http://www.ewsdge.eu/.
We provide expertise and opinions to the European Council and European Union and to parliaments, governments and administrative authorities at the federal and the state levels in Germany as well as to the media. We take part in the legislative decision-making process by submitting written opinions and giving expert testimony at parliamentary hearings. The Association is also frequently invited to submit written opinions and present oral arguments before the German Federal Constitutional Court.
