Mission:
This expert group advises the European Commission and the Directors of sectoral and environmental statistics and accounts (DIMESA) on all relevant matters in the field of energy statistics. Being part of the governance system of the European Statistical System (ESS), the group is in charge of the preparation of technical proposals related to the energy statistics domain, prior to the decisions to be taken by the DIMESA and the ESS Committee. The group also works to establish close cooperation between the energy-related statistical institutions of the Member States and the European Commission – Eurostat as well as to facilitate the exchange of information, knowledge, experiences and good practices among its members. It is also a forum for discussing methodology issues linked to the energy statistics, data collection and reporting. The group discusses the practical aspects of the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 1099/2008 on energy statistics and of Directive 2008/92/EC concerning a Community procedure to improve the transparency of gas and electricity prices charged to industrial end-users. It coordinates the work of the European Commission and of the Member States in the field of energy statistics and assists the Commission in the preparation of relevant legislation or implementing measures.
Task:

Coordinates with Member States, organises exchange of views, discusses and supports harmonised approach on the field of definitions, develops methodology, reporting and validation rules in the field of energy statistics.
