Pursuant to Article 17(1) of Regulation 1049/2001, the Commission has an obligation to publish an annual report containing statistics on the requests for access to documents. For this reason, we need to gather certain data with regard to the requests we handle. The data we need concern the country where the applicant resides or has his/her registered office and the applicant’s professional profile (company, law firm, interest group, NGO, student/researcher, journalist, public authority, citizen/private person). These data are collected for statistical purposes only and are not relevant as regards the decision to grant or to refuse access to the requested documents
Moreover, if one or more of the requested documents do not exist in electronic form or where the volume of the documentation justifies charging the cost of production and carriage, we need to know the name of the applicant and his/her postal address for sending the documents and, where appropriate, an invoice by post.
All personal data provided to the Commission is handled strictly in accordance with Regulation 45/2001 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.
