The EU will continue to play a key role in keeping markets open worldwide and helping Europe to exit from the economic crisis.

Europeans acknowledge that trade is good for Europe and Europe is good at trade. They expect trade to help create jobs, as a Eurobarometer survey on international trade reports.

Who will it benefit and how?
  • European consumers will have access to a wider variety of goods at lower prices.
  • European businesses will gain from greater access to export markets and from lowering the costs of cross-border commerce.
  • Workers – trade creates more jobs, both in Europe and outside our borders.
  • Developing countries – access to EU markets on advantageous terms offers them a step up the economic ladder.
