40 years of Customs Union: customs' crucial role in protecting citizens at the centre of a Europe-wide communication campaign this summer
The EU Customs Union's 40th anniversary was on display along holiday routes for much of the summer. On motorways bookmarks were handed out and billboards carried anniversary adverts. Customs' role in combating dangerous imports was featured in the magazines of major airlines. In addition, national customs services distributed posters, 820,000 leaflets and nearly 730,000 postcards in 22 languages in various places. See the pictures on our web page.
A special event on 4 July 2008 in Paris to mark 40 years of the EU Customs Union brought together EU Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union László Kovács, French Budget Minister Eric Woerth, the 27 Directors General of national customs and other personalities. EU Taxation and Customs Commissioner László Kovács was in Strasbourg on 17 June to participate in the European Parliament's session on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Customs Union.
