At every level, participants, hosts, moderators, debaters and exhibitors, whether they are from the North or the South, can take part, put forward their ideas and examine creative solutions. Male and female politicians, parliamentarians, representatives of international institutions, local authorities, NGOs, business leaders, researchers, journalists, artists and students are invited to share their knowledge and experiences. The debates will take place in plenary sessions or in bilateral meetings, in workshops or in the framework of parallel events, in quiet lounges or before the press. The EDD are a policy forum to highlight recent developments and important initiatives in key areas of development cooperation, e.g. peace, security, democracy, good governance, the economic crisis, international finance, free and fair trade, food security, resources, the media, human rights, and culture.
Since sport can play a useful role as a tool for development, sport organisations are encouraged to take part in the EDD 2010. There is an increasing recognition of the role that sport can play in transmitting human and social development messages to (young) people, especially those living in poverty. Moreover, it can be used to promote social inclusion, including in the areas of gender equality and disability, as well as health and education.
At stands in the Development Village, several hundred organisations will present their projects, their ideas and their visions for development cooperation. Online registration will start on 19 July 2010. Carbon offset: 500 € for a standard stand, 1000 € for an ad hoc stand, 1000 € for a seminar, 3000 € for a high-level meeting.
