First Council documents on sport adopted on 18 November 2010

EU Sport Ministers, meeting in the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council on 18 November, adopted a Resolution and two sets of Conclusions in the field of sport. These are the first documents to be adopted by the Council following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty in late 2009, which gives the EU a supporting, coordinating and supplementing competence in the field of sport. The adopted texts will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Meeting of EU Sport Ministers in Antwerp, Belgium, 21-22 October 2010

No level playing field: racism and discrimination in sport in the EU

On 28 October 2010 the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) presented a report on racism, ethnic discrimination and the exclusion of migrants and minorities in sport in the European Union.The report presents the findings of the first EU-wide research into this topic.

Meeting of EU Sport Directors in Genval, Belgium, 16-17 September 2010

Eurobarometer Survey on Sport and Physical Activity highlights large disparities among Member States
Publication : 29 Mars 2010
A special Eurobarometer Survey on Sport and Physical Activity was carried out in late 2009. The results show that while a majority of European citizens play sport or do some other form of physical exercise at least once a week, a worrying 25% of respondents say that they are almost completely inactive. Men play more sport and also exercise more than women. Health-related concerns are the most common reason for exercising.
