EU Sport Forum, 26-27 November 2008 in Biarritz, France

The European Commission organised the first EU Sport Forum since the adoption of the White Paper on Sport in Biarritz on 26 and 27 November 2008. The Forum took place in close connection with the informal meeting of EU Sport Ministers under the French EU Presidency, also in Biarritz on 27 and 28 November.

As foreseen in the White Paper on Sport, the EU Sport Forum is a key annual event in the framework of the structured dialogue on sport at EU level.

This year's event was organised in several thematic sessions linked to the implementation of the White Paper on Sport, of which two sessions took the form of high-level panel debates. The choice of the topics – the financing of sport, the specificity of sport, social dialogue in sport and education & training – corresponded with the political agenda as well as preferences expressed by European sport stakeholders within the EU structured dialogue on sport.

An active exchange of views with representatives from a variety of sport and sport-related organisations during these two days contributed to ensuring the success of the event and has helped the Commission to identify future priorities for EU-level debates on sport.
