Trade unions and employers in the metalwork sector – representing around 10 million employees – will on14 January 2010 launch a new sectoral social dialogue at EU level for the first time.
The new social dialogue committee will enable the Council of European Employers of the Metal, Engineering and Technology-Based Industries (CEEMET) and The European Metalworkers Federation (EMF) to sign contractual agreements at EU level.
It aims to help the industry – which is being hit hard by the crisis – to face challenges such as globalisation, management change and the restructuring process. It is the largest industrial sector in Europe in terms of employment, and is one of Europe’s principal exporters with a wide range of engineering products and services at the cutting edge of technology.
