The Advisory Committee on freedom of movement for workers adopted an opinion reaffirming the fundamental principle of free movement of workers and setting the priorities for its future activities.
The background to the opinion is the economic slowdown, which might have an impact on the equal treatment of EU migrant workers. The opinion recalls that the right to free movement for work purposes prohibits any form of discrimination on the basis of nationality against EU nationals and their family members and ensures equal treatment in all work related aspects.
The opinion also sets a list of priorities for future activities, including raising awareness about the rights of the EU citizens in the area of free movement of workers and analysing the question of the return of migrant workers to their countries of origin.
