The European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) organised the 13th European Meeting of People experiencing Poverty (PeP) on 22-24 September in Brussels.
The focus of the event was on funding the fight against poverty and in particular on the use of structural funds and the new Fund for European aid to the most deprived (FEAD).
Held every year since 2001, this annual meeting has played an important role in driving the development of the direct participation of people experiencing poverty. It is a key moment of visibility in this process but, more importantly, it acts as a catalyst for national processes and national meetings of people experiencing poverty.
László Andor, EU Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, Sergio Aires, President of EAPN, Franca Biondelli, Undersecretary at the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Michel Servoz, Director-General for Employment and Social Affairs, were among the key speakers.
Around 200 participants attended, including people experiencing poverty, representatives of national governments and EU institutions, European and national NGOs, social partners and academics.
5 parallel workshops took place:
This event was organised by EAPN with the financial support of the European Commission and in association with the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
