Significant rise in labour demand in the private sector

According to the July edition of the European Vacancy Monitor, labour demand increased in the private sector in most EU countries. Employment in the public sector shrank, mainly in the areas of education, health and social work.

Recovery in the private sector favoured mainly industrial workers, technicians, plant and machine operators, craft and related trade workers. Job vacancies in manufacturing rose by around 50 % in the fourth quarter of 2010 compared to the same quarter in 2009.

According to the latest issue of the European Job Mobility Bulletin, based on the vacancies published on the EURES portal, good employment opportunities are available for:

• Health professionals (except nursing) in the Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, and to a lesser extent in France and the Netherlands
• Managers in Germany (in production and operations as well as in advertising and public relations departments), France (in sales and marketing department managers, and also general managers in business services), United Kingdom (production and operations), and in Luxembourg
• Physical and engineering science technicians in Austria, France and the United Kingdom
• Computer associate professionals in France and Luxembourg

The same edition of the Bulletin also lists the top five jobs published on the EURES portal. At the end of May they were:

1. Finance and sales associate professionals: 29.300 vacancies in Germany, 3.800 in France, 3.100 in Belgium
2. Shop salespersons and demonstrators: 10.500 vacancies in Germany, 6.300 in Belgium, 2.400 in Denmark
3. Housekeeping and restaurant services workers: 16.500 vacancies in Germany, 7.600 in the UK,  6.700 in Denmark
4. Personal care and related workers: 12.100 vacancies in Germany, 1.400 in France, 1.300 in Ireland
5. Modern health associate professionals: 25.000 vacancies in the UK, 10.300 in Germany, 3.500 in Belgium

The European Vacancy Monitor provides an overview of recent developments on the European job market. The European Job Mobility Bulletin focuses on the analysis of vacancies posted on the EURES portal by national public employment services. These two quarterly bulletins were launched within the Europe 2020 flagship initiative 'An agenda for new skills and jobs'.
