Over 200 representatives from local, regional and national administrations, institutions, social services and associations came together on 14 February 2012 at the Committee of the Regions (CoR) in Brussels to discuss the multilevel governance approach to Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.
The Forum presented good practice in the three major thematic strands of the European Year, each of which is closely linked to the CoR’s competences: Employment, Participation in Society and Independent Living.
The CoR has published a report with the outcome of all sessions and workshops, including highlights of the speeches delivered by Mercedes Bresso, President of the Committee of the Regions; Koos Richelle, Director-General DG Employment and Inclusion, European Commission; Paola Testori Coggi, Director-General DG Health and Consumers Affairs, European Commission, and Arnoldas Abramavicius, Mayor of Zarasai District Municipality, Lithuania, Chairman of the CoR Commission for Economic and Social Policy.
The three workshops held at the forum were “Valorising the senior workers in regional employment strategies”, “Local integration and participation in society” and “Regional approaches for healthy and independent living.”
