Young people have been hit hardest by the economic crisis as they often lack the experience and skills to be competitive on the labour market. - Young people have been hit hardest by the economic crisis as they often lack the experience and skills to be competitive on the labour market. Today one in five young Europeans cannot find a job. To emphasise the value of young people in the workforce, the Youth@Work action aims to show that, thanks to their fresh take on the world, young people often have innovative ideas and energy to bring to the table. Carola Raimondo has been an entrepreneur for 16 years now and she owns two businesses employing young people. Cristina Ghimpu is one of these young people. She’s from Romania and she found a job in one of Carola Raimondo’s companies thanks to the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme. The two women are very happy with this exchange of experience and knowledge.

Today one in five young Europeans cannot find a job. To emphasise the value of young people in the workforce, the Youth@Work action aims to show that thanks to their fresh take on the world, young people often have innovative ideas and energy to bring to the table. According to a European study, in Poland around 50% of people would prefer to be self-employed rather than an employee. Grzegorz Babynko is one of those who chose to start his/her own business; he makes and sells jewellery and he’s an expert at valuing precious stones. Even if it’s difficult sometimes, his goal is to keep on developing his business.

Young people have been hardest hit by the economic crisis as they often lack the experience and skills to be competitive. - Young people have been hardest hit by the economic crisis as they often lack the experience and skills to be competitive. Today one in five young Europeans cannot find a job. To emphasise the value of young people in the workforce, the Youth@Work action aims to show that thanks to their fresh take on the world, young people often have innovative ideas and energy. In Belgium, 50% of the population has a favourable opinion of entrepreneurs but the entrepreneurship rate is still below 10%. Diane Mbarushimana, 27, took the risk and is establishing a company called Guheka to make products for parents and young children, such as baby carriers. As she didn't feel confident enough to become self-employed, she first turned to an association which helps her to concentrate on her start-up without having to reach a certain level of turnover each month. Then she applied for a micro-loan, through microStart. Nowadays she’s really happy to be her own boss.
