ESCO one year on: major uptake by public and private organisations shows its added value

One year after its launch, ESCO has already been used in a substantial number of IT implementations covering a variety of areas. Examples include: recruiting, matching skills to jobs and trainings, career planning, documenting peoples' skills and qualifications and analysing labour market trends.

For example, within the EURES service platform, ESCO supports the automated matching of jobseekers' skills and job openings. This helps to find the right job for the right candidate, by comparing their skills and preferences with the expectations of employers.

Furthermore, its wide collection of skills concepts and its multilingual nature serve to document migrants' skills with the EU Skills Profile Tool for Third Country Nationals.

In addition, CEDEFOP is using the ESCO skills classification for the big data analysis from online job vacancies.

Finally, the public employment services in Ireland and Island use ESCO to offer better services to jobseekers and employers, and private organisations around Europe use ESCO for matching people and jobs, offering training opportunities and providing career guidance.
