Eighth meeting of the UfM High-Level Working Group on Employment and Labour and Seminar on the integration of refugees and migrants in the labour market

Working together for employment, employability and decent work.

The meeting of the High-Level Working Group (HLWG) focused on the preparation of the 2019 Ministerial Conference. The meeting was organised back to back with a seminar on the integration of refugees and migrants in the labour market, which took place on the first day.

Preparing the 2019 Ministerial Conference

The HLWG kicked off the preparation for the next UfM Ministerial Conference at its meeting in March 2018, where the participants agreed on the broad outline of the event (format, date, place). The participants also gathered ideas for the policy conference, identified elements for the Ministerial Declaration and made proposals for implementable actions as a follow-up to the conference.

Building on this preliminary work done, the HLWG continued to work on these topics to advance as much as possible on the preparation of the 2019 Ministerial Conference.

The integration of refugees and migrants in the labour market

The first day of the meeting was dedicated to a seminar on the "integration of refugees and migrants in the labour market". This seminar is part of the 2017-2019 Roadmap which implements the 2016 Ministerial Declaration.

The Syrian refugee crisis and the evolution of migratory flows within the Mediterranean area during the recent years are challenges for the countries of both shores of the Mediterranean. While recognizing the complexity and sensitiveness of these challenges, the seminar focused on the specific issues relating to the integration of refugees and migrants in the labour market.
