Social protection systems - MISSOC - Related videos

Duration :01:10 / Date: Dec 2016

The European Commission has proposed to update the rules that coordinate social security systems in Europe. A disabled pensioner who has spent her entire working life in Belgium decides to spend her retirement in Spain. Today, her sickness benefits are already coordinated between EU Member States. The Commission proposes to coordinate long-term care benefits as well, to enable the pensioner to take her cash benefits with her to Spain to assist with her long-term care needs. Spain will provide her with the support and services needed and Belgium will reimburse the costs of such support and services. Better coordination of social security systems will make it easier for citizens to know where to claim social security benefits and how to exercise their rights in another EU country.
