The annual review of Employment and Social Developments in Europe (ESDE) provides analytical support for EU and national policy actions in pursuit of the Europe 2020 employment and social objectives. It considers the latest available data and provides analysis of key employment and

It aims to contribute to the European Semester and new policy initiatives such as the New Skills Agenda, the European Agenda for the Collaborative Economy, the New Start for Social Dialogue, the Action Plan on the Integration of Third-Country Nationals and the development of a European Pillar of Social Rights.

Labour market policies are financial and practical policies that can help people in disadvantaged groups in the labour market move from inactivity and unemployment into employment or find better fitting jobs. They are varied and include job searching mechanisms, activation interventions and income supports (unemployment benefits). A set of these policies are grouped together as "measures" or activation policies and include training, employment incentives, supported employment and rehabilitation, direct job creation, start-up incentives. The publication provides data on expenditure and participants in the different types of LMP intervention in 29 countries (EU Member States plus Norway) as well as related indicators that are used for monitoring the Employment Guidelines.

The EU Youth Employment Initiative - Investing in young people  (25/11/2016)

This brochure describes how the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) supports measures aiming to reduce youth unemployment in the worst affected areas of the EU. Social enterprises and their eco-systems: developments in Europe  (25/10/2016)

This report illustrates the state and development of social enterprise in Europe. The research was conducted by independent academics supported by the EMES network and the EURICSE research centre. In each country the researchers engaged in an interactive process with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of the picture.

Seven country reports also provides a comprehensive picture of social enterprises and their eco-systems in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Slovakia and Poland.

Policy brief on scaling the impact of social enterprises  (05/09/2016)

This policy brief on strategies and policies to scale the social impact of social enterprises was produced within a multiannual cooperation between the LEED programme of the OECD and the Directorate General Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission. It begins by explaining what a social enterprise is and what scaling means in the context of social enterprises. It then compares the scaling patterns of social enterprises and conventional enterprises, looking at social impact vs. profit maximisation, the types of goods and services involved, and stakeholder relations. It goes on to examine specific strategies for scaling impact and also highlights the challenges and policy responses connected with this.
