The EU is supporting Member States to develop high quality apprenticeship and traineeship programmes to: • make the school-to-work transition easier • equip young people with the right skills and experience for sustainable employment. This EU-wide study which was commissioned by DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities provides a comprehensive and comparative overview of traineeship arrangements, including legislative/regulatory and quality assurance frameworks, in all 27 Member States. It was conducted by the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) (lead co-ordinator), the Istituto per la Ricerca Sociale (IRS) and the Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung (BIBB) in collaboration with an EU-wide network of regional and national experts. It is available in electronic format in English only, and includes French and German summaries.
