    Labour shortages and surpluses 2017

    This report identifies shortage and surplus occupations in the EU, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. It explores the causes of shortages and proposes potential solutions. Some of the jobs in short supply in 2017 include cooks, plumbers, generalist medical practitioners and systems analysts, while there is less demand for general office clerks; shop sales assistants and advertising and marketing professionals. Ultimately, this analysis aims at creating a model which can accurately and comprehensively identify imbalances and cross-border matching possibilities.

    The Role of PES in Outreach to the Inactive Population - Study report

    The inactive population is not a traditional target group for the Public Employment Services (PES), although a significant share of it wants to work and is potentially available for work. The study surveys existing policy regimes and outreach measures for three target groups among the inactive that are central to current policy discussions on increasing labour force participation and social inclusion: 1) Inactive older workers; 2) Working-age women not in the labour force; and 3)  Ethnic minorities and migrants. It also depicts in more detail six case studies from Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Sweden.

    Sozial Agenda 50 – Die neue soziale Dimension

    Die Zeiten ändern sich schnell, und Beschäftigung und soziale Angelegenheiten sind ein entscheidender Anteil im Fahrplan für eine stärker geeinte und demokratischere EU bis Juni 2019, der vom Präsidenten der EU-Kommission Jean-Claude Juncker im September 2017 vorgestellt wurde: Die Vorschläge der Kommission für die Umsetzung müssen bis spätestens Mai 2018 dem Europäischen Parlament und dem Rat vorgelegt werden.

    Wir erklären, wie die Europäische Säule sozialer Rechte, die von den EU-Staats- und Regierungschefs im vergangenen November proklamiert wurde, als Rahmenwerk für die Vorbereitung dient und die soziale Dimension der wirtschaftspolitischen Steuerung der EU stärkt.

    Wir überprüfen auch Vorschläge für ein EU-Rahmenwerk, um die Qualität der Lehrlingsausbildungen zu verbessern, berichten über Hinweise auf einen dringenden Bedarf, die Ungerechtigkeit zwischen den Generationen in Angriff zu nehmen, und zeigen, in welchem Maße die soziale Innovation eine Notwendigkeit ist, um ein nachhaltiges Wirtschaftswachstum sicherzustellen.

    An evaluation of the scale of undeclared work in the European Union and its structural determinants

    How big is undeclared work in the EU? According to this study, more than 11% of work in the private sector is 'under the table'. However, there are big differences between EU countries, with Poland, Romania and Lithuania having the highest levels of undeclared work, while Germany and the Netherlands have low shares. The study analyses the reasons for this and examines the types of employments where undeclared work is more frequent.

    Labour market policy - Expenditure and participants - Data 2015

    This publication presents statistics on labour market policy (LMP) interventions implemented by EU Member States and Norway in 2015, together with time-series for key variables covering the period 2002-2015.

    Labour market policies are financial and practical policies that can help people in disadvantaged groups in the labour market move from inactivity and unemployment into employment or find better fitting jobs. They are varied and include job searching mechanisms, activation interventions and income supports (unemployment benefits). A set of these policies are grouped together as "measures" or activation policies and include training, employment incentives, supported employment and rehabilitation, direct job creation, start-up incentives. The publication provides data on expenditure and participants in the different types of LMP intervention in 29 countries (EU Member States plus Norway) as well as related indicators that are used for monitoring the Employment Guidelines.
