European Health Insurance Card
The European Commission has launched an information campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
The EHIC is free of charge. It makes it easier for people from the European Union’s 27 Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland to access health care services should they fall ill or get injured during a temporary visit abroad. The information campaign describes in a humorous way situations a traveller can avoid thanks to the EHIC. Since its successful introduction in 2004, 173 million people have already been issued with a European Health Insurance Card.
