Regional development programmes

Overview of structural programmes
European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The ERDF – the largest EU financial instrument for SMEs – supports small firms through co-financing activities in a wide range of areas. The programmes are managed and implemented by the Member States.
European Social Fund (ESF)
The ESF provides funding for employment, education and skills. This includes funding for anticipating and managing economic and social change, with a number of opportunities for supporting SMEs.
European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)
The EAFRD aims to strengthen the EU's agriculture, forestry sector and rural areas in general. This fund focuses on investment for innovation, know-how, ICT skills and diversification of activities.
European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF)
The EMFF helps fishermen transition to sustainable fishing, support coastal communities in diversifying their economies, finance projects that create new jobs and improve quality of life along European coasts and make it easier to access financing.
