How is the Contest funded?

The EU Contest for Young Scientists is funded by the European Commission and, specifically, by its Directorate for Science and Society. It is intended that activites like the EU Contest will lead to the involvement of the younger generation in the necessary dialogue on science and society, as well as promoting the interaction between education and science. The nurturing of a new generation of scientists is essential for the improvement of the European competitiveness, growth, jobs and quality of life. Yet, traditional methods of science education do not appear to motivate the younger generation to aspire to a career in science. Science and technology education must, therefore, be strengthened in the future. The EU Contest for Young Scientists is one of the Commission's key efforts to attract young people to careers in science and technology.
