A European Research Area (ERA)
While most research activities, programmes and policies take place at regional and national levels, no single country offers sufficient resources to be competitive on world scale.
The European Research Area (ERA) consists of research activities, programmes and policies in Europe which involve a transnational perspective, including cross-border co-operation.
The aim is to give them access to a Europe-wide open space for knowledge and technologies in which transnational synergies and complementarities are fully exploited.
- Improving transnational cooperation in transport research at the operational level, including through National Contact Points (NCPs).
- Broadening the geographical scope by the inclusion of new members from national and regional programmes whose transport research potential needs to be developed.
- Better coordination between national and regional programmes and the EU's Framework Programme.
