Sustainable urban transport

Europe's towns and cities need to reduce traffic congestion and pollution to enhance the quality of life for citizens, while allowing efficient and convenient movement of people and goods to support the growth of economic activities. Main targets are to make public transport schedules 50% more reliable and to preserve and improve urban accessibility.

Research priorities:

  • Urban infrastructure
  • New forms of organisation of urban mobility: high quality public transport, car-sharing, car pooling, demand-responsive transport
  • Urban mobility services with the support of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
  • Urban mobility systems: innovative and clean urban vehicles, quiet cities, accessibility for vulnerable users
  • City logistics
  • International co-operation
