There are some important lessons to be learnt from the current economic and financial crisis. One is that, in a world where knowledge has become the global currency, investing in research and innovation pays dividends. Europe as a whole stands to benefit from supporting research and innovation as a way of generating growth and quality jobs.
The Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) of the European Commission is making use of the tools at its disposal to help to achieve this goal. One of these tools is the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) (2007-2013).
"Science at the service of Europe 2012" gives an overview of how the European Commission supported research and innovation in 2012 through all specific activities of FP7 with the aim of continuing to enhance our quality of life.
