These actions are the backbone of the European Research Area and an excellent example of 'European partnership for researchers'. They train researchers in up-to-date scientific and transferable skills at all stages of their careers. Furthermore, they have organised over 1 500 'stays' in private companies.

The research excellence that MCAs drive has led to more than 57 000 publications in peer reviewed journals and books. These include high-level scientific magazines, such as 'Nature' and 'Science'.

As the end of the FP6 programme approaches in 2012, MCAs have already confirmed their support of the Europe 2020 Strategy. They are frontrunners of many EU flagship initiatives, such as 'Youth on the Move', 'New Skills and Jobs' and 'Innovation Union'.
