To meet EU international climate commitments a new generation of economically viable low-carbon technologies must be developed. These technologies would help generate new sources of growth and ensure EU competitiveness.
The Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan is the technology pillar of the European energy and climate policy. Thanks to the SET-Plan, the entire chain of research and innovation has been made stronger and more coherent. The main implementing mechanisms are the current seven European Industrial Initiatives and the European Energy Research Alliance. Over 2 000 researchers and 120 European research organisations are working together to achieve the ambitious SET-Plan targets.
