"Transnational cooperation amasses the resources needed for better interpretation of key social issues."
The Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities programme deals with major societal trends and their implications, the lives of EU citizens, the role of Europe in the world, socio-economic and scientific indicators, and foresight activities. Such research is essential to learn more about European societies and provide a basis for informed choices of policy direction.
By its nature, transnational research provides a perspective differing from that of purely national initiatives. A sustained effort at this scale is key to understanding the region’s cultural complexity and harnessing its diversity for the benefit of all. Moreover, by opening the programme to international cooperation, researchers from Europe and third countries are working together on the common challenges facing the globalised world.
