Prof François Grin
Project “MIME – Mobility and Inclusion in Multilingual Europe”, funded by the Framework Programme 7 in 2013-2018, aims at identifying the language policies and strategies in Europe in relation to “mobility” and “inclusion”. In this interview, the coordinator of the project, Professor François Grin from the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the University of Geneva, clarifies what is important for the governance of linguistic diversity in Europe.

The current ACP-EC Partnership Agreement was signed on 23 June 2000 in Cotonou, Benin and was revised in, respectively, 2005 and 2010. It was concluded for a twenty-year period and will expire on 29 February 2020. Therefore, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the key questions pertaining to the partnership and relations after 2020 between the EU and the members of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) with the aim to take stock of the current Partnership Agreement and to explore if it remains a valid framework for future cooperation.

The Luxembourg Presidency held a conference in December 2015 on "Boosting Social Enterprises in Europe" which resulted in a declaration signed by 6 Member States asking the European Union to further commit for strengthening the support to the social economy. The declaration states that “the social economy is a model, which has weathered the economic crisis better than many others”.

Supporting the European Pillar of Social Rights: Social research for upward convergence in social and employment policies
The European Commission published today a Communication launching a consultation on a European Pillar of Social Rights. The initiative is part of President Juncker's agenda for upward convergence in employment and social affairs. FP7 project ImPRovE provided important evidence and methodological innovations with regard to tracking poverty and enhancing social inclusion and protection in the EU. The research findings and recommendations produced by the project should help enrich the European Pillar of Social Rights.

The Project DESAFIO focused on the impact of the lack of safe water and sanitation services in vulnerable communities of South America, with emphasis on Brazil. Some of DESAFIO’s case studies were conducted in the areas that are now at the centre of the international epidemic outbreak caused by the Zika virus.
