  • Announcement of a conference on "Key Technologies for Europe",
    Brussels, 19-20 Septembre 2005


  • The EP/STOA is organising its 3rd Annual Lecture entitled "New and old epidemic diseases: a challenge for medical research and policy makers" by Prof. Rolf ZINKERNAGEL , MD, PhD, Zurich, Switzerland, Medicine Nobel Prizewinner 1996 for discoveries concerning the specificity of the cell mediated immune defence. It will take place on 24 November 2004 at the European Parliament, Room PHS-1A2, at 18:00h. Prior registration is required here.


  • The Blueprints for Foresight Actions in the Regions expert group will hold a dissemination conference on Thursday September 23rd titled "Building the Future on Knowledge" to present the results of the expert group works. The conference also aims at informing national and regional policymakers and policy-shapers of the combined policies and instruments of the European Union supporting the development of regional knowledge-based economies. High level political input will be combined with the hands-on experience of the five working groups of the Blueprints expert group. Several European Commission Directorates (Agriculture, Enterprise, Environment, Regional Policy and Research) will participate in a panel discussion focusing on how EU policies and their instruments in different areas can be orchestrated to promote regional economies built on knowledge.   • Conference "Converging Technologies for a Diverse Europe" -
    Brussels, September 14-15, 2004
    - to present the results of the expert group "Foresighting the New Technology Wave". The conference will focus on the need to analyse the emergence of a new research policy theme, the convergence of Nano-, Bio-, Info- and Cogno-technologies, and to assess the implications of the converging technologies policy agenda for Europe's scientific enterprise and trajectory of socio-economic development.   • The Irish EU Presidency is organising a Conference on "Foresight for Innovation - thinking and debating the future: shaping and aligning policies", 14th/15th June 2004, O'Reilly Hall, University College Dublin, Dublin 4.
    The Foresight conference will focus on the use of foresight (results) for improved and stronger alignment of policy making and its contribution to the Lisbon Agenda, which the EU Competitiveness Council has indicated needs a new momentum, as well as to national initiatives currently underway or planned.
