Security

The contribution of the “Security” Theme in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) to sustainable development can be apprehended by:

1. Its overall objective and rationale: Research under this theme has the overall objective of developing technologies and knowledge that help ensure the security of citizens from threats like terrorism, natural disasters and crime, and building up the capabilities of civil European security. 2. Link to sustainable development: Greater security is important for sustainable development in order to manage growing risks, whether man-made or naturally occurring. Security research is also being increased at the international level to help with development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
