1. Its overall objective and rationale: Research conducted under this theme has the overall objective of bringing together science, industry and society to build a “European knowledge-based bio-economy”. The

2. Link to sustainable development: To underpin the vision of the "European knowledge based bio-economy", the work programmes take up various topics which relate to key challenges of the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS), like research into sustainable consumption and production patterns. This
chapter of the Vision papers ( 183 KB) describes the articulation between food, agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology research and sustainable development challenges.
3. The monitoring system on the contribution of FP7 to sustainable development provides an overview of food, agriculture, fisheries and biotechnology research topics related to sustainable development in FP7.
