FP7 tailored for sustainability

Environment (including climate change)

The contribution of Theme 6 "Environment (including climate change)" [pdf 196 Kb] to sustainable development is focused on a better understanding of the climate change phenomenon, environmental impacts on health, natural hazards, biodiversity and the quality of the Earth and the marine environment.

This better understanding implies the consideration of the systemic interactions between ecosystems and socio-economic systems. This Theme also provides funding for research on response strategies and environmental technologies, with a focus on waste and water treatment, soil rehabilitation and life cycle assessment. Last but not least, Earth observation and tools for impact assessment are also included in this Theme. The FP7 homepage for environment (including climate change) research provides more information on research funded under this Theme.

For the first year of implementation (2007), a research budget of €200 million has been called for in this Theme. The following tables shows the links between the topics and the sustainable development objectives.
