
Ottilia Saxl founded the Institute of Nanotechnology in 1997, a registered charity, with the aim of disseminating information on the new field of nanotechnology to a range of stakeholders from industry to the general public, especially using electronic communication techniques. The Institute has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the most important providers of analysis and foresight relating to nanotechnology, worldwide. Building on a desire to make nanotechnology even more accessible, In 2007 Ottilia started NANO magazine, www.nanomagazine.co.uk in order to continue the idea of communicating nanotechnology in a new and user friendly way. In early 2009, Ottilia retired from the Institute and is now devoting herself full time to NANO magazine and to promoting nanotechnology, 27 especially for its social, medical and environmental applications, but with regard to ensuring its safe use, and potential for misuse.
