Bert de Wit is a biologist and a Programme Manager at the Advisory Council for Research on Spatial Planning, Nature and the Environment (RMNO) in the Netherlands. His expertise lies in the field of boundary work between science, policy and society (see: “Methodology of Boundary Work”, RMNO, 2005). Inter- and transdisciplinarity are part of his interest (see: “Building Bridges, the experiences of Dutch researchers with interdisciplinary research” (2007). Projects of the Council to which he contributed a great deal, are: “The Articulation of Strategic Knowledge Demand in Departments”, “Scan of Future Studies” and “A Knowledge Agenda for the “Living Environment”. For the Minister of the Environment RMNO analysed the relations between research on sustainable development and valorisation, innovation, and higher education (2009). The report to the Minister will be supplemented by a number of good practices. A limited number of follow up activities will be undertaken for that purpose.
