Conference “Sustainable development: a challenge for European research”

This conference, organised by the Research DG in cooperation with the Czech Presidency of the EU, took place in Brussels from 26 to 28 May 2009, its aim was to celebrate the multiple ways through which European research contributes to global sustainable development: improved understanding of the environment, technological solutions, changing mindsets and behaviours, bearing in mind that it is also at the roots of unsustainable trends.

Scientists, industry, civil society and R&D policy-makers were gathered to confront their views and stakes regarding what R&D can and cannot do for sustainability.

Coming close to mid-term of FP7 implementation, this 3-day conference has taken stock of the progress made so far and has identified ways and means for putting the European research system at the service of sustainable development.

We invite you to discover the participants' presentations, audio-recording and the sessions reports of this conference.
