Jacques LECLAIRE
Director of Life Sciences Research
of L'Oréal
"Research is, above all things,
the expression of innovation and creativity. This being the case,
it is very much a humanistic endeavor. This aspect of research,
this richness, in all scientific domains, can only be fully achieved
by accessing all the complementary sensibilities of the human race,
masculine and feminine. For this reason, one can not passively accept
the current disparities, characterized by a preponderance of one
sex or the other, observed in certain research sector and, in particular,
in senior management positions. The ultimate goal of private research
is to generate societal progress. Thus, the members of our society
have the right to clearly see and understand the outcome of our
scientific efforts. Based on these two convictions, that research
is first and foremost a humanistic endeavor and that researchers
are obligated to explain their scientific efforts to society at
large, I am delighted to contribute to a group of European experts
whose target is to promote women in industrial research."
