Prominent women

Throughout the history of all Eastern and Central European countries, there have been many women whose contributions to science and knowledge in general have been remarkable. Without those women, the history of science in those countries, and sometimes in the wider Europe, would not be the same. Some of them have been appreciated during their lifetimes, some have been forgotten, others are being re-discovered, many are still facing numerous obstacles. Most women in science during the past, as well as today, had and still have to cope with exclusion and marginalisation together with non-recognition and disrespect. Our intention here is to make visible the rich and inspiring history/herstory of women, who have shaped and are shaping knowledge in those countries and to learn from their experiences of failures and success.
