Responsible governance of science and technology’ - Perspectives from Europe, China and India. - 12/03/2014

The Science and Technology Options Assessment Unit of the European Parliament, STOA will hold a Workshop on 19 March 2014 titled ‘Responsible governance of science and technology’ - Perspectives from Europe, China and India.

A socially and ethically responsible development of emerging sciences and technologies is essential, in Europe and elsewhere. The challenge remains to improve S&T governance at all levels in order that technology is developed in line with societal needs and is responsive to citizens and civil society. This is particularly true, because several forms of new technologies can be characterised as scientifically complex, novel, unfamiliar innovations, presenting significant uncertainties related to their application. There is also a need to bring in global perspectives in S&T governance issues as debates are becoming increasingly internationalised and solutions require common governance frameworks.

At the workshop the results and recommendations from three Science in Society projects (GEST, EST-Frame and EPINET) funded by the Commission will be presented. The workshop will give an opportunity to compare the European perspective with experiences and contributions from other regions, as Speakers from China and India will present Responsible Research and Innovation in their respective countries.

See the Speakers: Poster PDF document.

The event will be streamed live.
