The recently established National Institute for Astrophysics (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, INAF) is composed of nineteen Italian public astronomical observatories and research laboratories in the field of astrophysics. The institute organised a special event in three main Italian cities to celebrate European Researchers’ Night. Palermo, Specola Museum, 20.00-24.00In Palermo the Specola Museum is holding a special night featuring short presentations about scientific research, guided visits and sky observations with the assistance of an astronomer. Admission is free of charge. Milan, Brera Astronomical Observatory, from 21.00In Milano, the Brera Astronomic Observatory will host a presentation and discussion called ‘Beyond our galaxy – Discovering the universe’ at the Fiore Dome. Merate, Brera Astronomical Observatory, from 09.00As part of the programme ‘Magie in Cielo e in Terra – Impara divertendoti!’, student lectures and ‘laboratories-for-fun’ will be held between 9.00 and 12.30, including visits to the Institute. ‘Research meets industry’ presentations will be held from 15.00 to 21.00. During the evening, visitors will also have the opportunity to use the observatory’s telescope to observe the night sky. All activities are free and open to the public. Admission is free of charge.
