E=mc2, de l’energie à la vie’ (‘E=mc2 – From energy to life’) is a touring exhibition specially created for the International Year of Physics. Free of charge to visitors, the exhibition is presently in the city of Gap, Hautes Alpes, where it will be the main focus of activities for the celebration of European Researchers’ Night.

The exhibition addresses a variety of topics related to the famous formula E=mc2:

  • From the Big Bang to the organisation of matter and the creation of the universe – planets and exoplanets, the fabulous adventure of the search for other worlds.
  • Nuclear reactions – the energy of the infinitely small.
  • Dating our past – nuclear disintegration and the origins of humanity.

  • 14.00-16.00: Educational workshops on nuclear fusion (ITER), nuclear fission, and radioactivity, in a ‘cloud chamber’ allowing visualisation of cosmic particles. Participants will receive an educational kit on radioactivity, including Geiger counter detection.
  • 16.00-18.00: Guided tour of the exhibition by researchers.
  • 20.30-22.00: Conference by Jean Marc Ané, physicist at the CEA: ‘ITER, inheriting the energy of the stars’.
