This double image presents part of the inner ear of an adult wild mouse (on the right) and of a Krox20 mutant (on the left). The Krox20 gene, also known in man as Egr2, is involved in many biological processes, including control of bone development. The Krox20 mutation results in osteoporosis of the bones of the inner ear, apparent in a major reduction in their size. Colouration with alizarin.
