Contract nr: QLK5-CT-2000-00473
Project type: RS (Research and Technological Development Project)
Starting date: 01-01-2001
Duration: 36 months
Total cost: 3,006,052 EUR
EC Contribution: 2,005,968 EUR
Scientific Officer: Veronica SABBAG
Research topic: 5.4. Support for common policies (Common Agricultural/Fisheries Policy)

Abstract:
Agri-food sector analysis will be done by partners in each EU Member State and combined to provide results for the entire EU. For this, econometric models will be constructed for each country. These models will be linked together as an EU composite model and produce results for the EU and its members. Impacts on the sector of changes in policies and external conditions will be estimated to a 10-year horizon. Projections would include those for major agricultural products, inputs, direct payments, agricultural incomes, forestry, environmental indicators, and EU budget expenditure. There will be sector-wide participation in validation of models and projections in each country. This review process will also accelerate and intensify take-up of the projections and forward looking analysis - a process to be enhanced by a communication strategy. Ultimate benefits will be through improvement in the information available for decision making in the face of increased pressures on this sector.
