The Event

The week-long event, which is held in a different European city every year, is a true celebration of the talents of the young scientists.

At the venue, each participating team is allocated a stand in an exhibition area to display its findings to the jury and other visitors. Over the course of the week, the jury members visit the stands and quiz the entrants on their research, their findings and their conclusions. The questions are often extremely detailed, and the experience is made all the more difficult for many students by the fact that the interviews are conducted entirely in English.

An unforgettable experience

Most of the entrants have never presented their work in an international setting before, and for some, travelling to the contest represents their first trip outside their home country.

While much of the week is taken up with the judging process, there is plenty of time for the participants to get to know each other, both in the exhibition area and through a packed social programme that includes sightseeing trips, dinners and parties. In this way, friendships are forged which may last for a lifetime.

Another highlight for the young scientists is the opportunity to spend time with the many experienced researchers who flock to the exhibition, keen to meet the next generation of scientists.

The week culminates in a glittering awards ceremony, during which the prizes are handed out by high ranking dignitaries from both the European Commission and the host country.
