European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing

Wrap up to move on more pictures

The European Summit of Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing took place in Brussels on March 9 and 10.
Over 1400 visitors swamped the Brussels Square meeting centre, took part in over 32 sessions, workshops, sandpits and the Pioneer Village with its 20 exhibition booths.
More than 20 start-ups presented themselves in the speakers' corner. Exhibitors and participants blogged and tweeted. Businesses found customers, researchers met with consumers, patients with service-providers and visitors had encounters with robots. The summit attracted new categories of partners: investors, including social investors, but also representatives of the construction and tourism sector as well as designers joined the event to seize the European potential of the Silver Economy  PDF icon 1018 KB .

Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing must benefit our citizens - all of them."
He said also: "The EIP on Active and Healthy Ageing is already three years old, but we will continue the partnership. The new Commission, Jean Claude Juncker and his team, are convinced that there is a future for this project. Over the next five years we want to continue this program, secure and deepen it, and build upon its network to create added value for industry, jobs and growth, and for the quality of life of elder European citizens."(View the video of the speech.)

picture of Commissioner Carlos MoedasCommissioner Carlos Moedas for Research, Science and Innovation encouraged the audience by saying "Life starts at 70". He commented: "In every EU Member State, the share of the population aged 65 years and over is increasing, which presents us with a ready-made, emerging market for social entrepreneurship and innovation, a sound case for developing cheaper, more efficient, personalised approaches to healthcare, and a growing customer base for tailored goods and services."
He also underlined the importance of the EIP on Active and Healthy Ageing and encouraged all to keep up the action: "I wish the EIP Active and Healthy Ageing success in your vital work. It is really important that you are able to point to significant real world impacts from your activity: on this the value of the EIP model will ultimately be judged."
