Director of Innovation, MindLab
Christian is passionate about transforming the public sector's ability to meet the needs of citizens and society. Since 2007 he has been the Director of MindLab, a cross-ministerial unit for citizen-centred innovation in Denmark. MindLab is an integral part of the ministries of Business & Growth, Employment and Taxation. The organisation leverages design and ethnography to drive innovation in public policies and services.
Prior to joining MindLab in 2007, Christian led the public organisation and management practice of Ramboll, a European consultancy, where he held numerous positions from 1998 onwards, including a secondment in New York.
Christian is also a university lecturer and trainer, and has presented to and advised numerous governments in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He is a regular columnist and blogger and the author of four books on leadership, innovation and change in the public sector, most recently ‘Leading Public Sector Innovation: Co-creating for a Better Society’ (Policy Press, 2010). Christian Bason serves on numerous boards and advisory bodies, amongst others the European Commission’s European Design Leadership Board, the Advisory Board of the Lisbon Council, the Jury of Local Government Denmark’s Innovation Awards, and the Jury of the ‘Best of the Internet’ awards for public sector websites in Denmark.
Christian holds B.Sc. and M.Sc.’s in political science from the University of Aarhus, and has received executive education from Harvard Business School and the Wharton School. He is currently writing his doctoral thesis with Copenhagen Business School, Stanford University, Case Western University and Oxford Saïd Business School on how public managers use design approaches to drive social innovation.
